SANTA BARBARA CHAPTER #243
Established October 17, 1929
“Promoting the Harmony of Greek Culture, Service, and Community”
“Keeping the Spirit Alive and In the Mix in 2006”
October is a significant month in the history of this Ahepa Chapter. As you can see in the masthead this Chapter was established on October 17, 1929-87 years ago. The founding members of this Chapter were very involved and active in the Ahepa and with the Saint Barbara Parish family. The first District 20 Governor was George Ellis, a founding member of this Chapter. His family, relatives, and other families from that era are still active within this organization and the Saint Barbara community.
What is Ahepa today? The mission of the Ahepa family is to promote Hellenism, Education, Philanthropy, Civic Responsibility, and Family and Individual Excellence. These areas of responsibility are the ancient Ideals of our Hellenic Essence. These were and should continue to be the main pillars of our American Society and our own individual responsibilities. For an expanded discussion of these areas of responsibility I refer you to the following web site-http://ahepa20.org/about/information.htm. .
Congratulations to Louis Arger, son of James and Carol Arger. He is a recipient of a National Ahapa Scholarship award. He also was awarded an Ahepa District 20 Scholarship award at the District Convention in June. Louis has taken a lot of responsibilities in our Parish along with his other tasks in school and private life. We congratulate him and wish him continued success. We extend these wishes to all our youth in this Parish.
The coming months should be filled with excitement as there are many events being planned by many of our Parish organizations.
Enjoy the autumn days that are upon us.
Jim Brown. President
