FIRES IN SANTA BARBARA CALIFORNIA
Our prayers and wishes for complete safety and well being are with
everyone living in the affected area, and particularly those in the
Greek Communities and our Sisters of the Daughters of Penelope
living in the area. We are all praying that the fires end soon and
everyone and their homes will remain safe.
DOP PDG #20 Georgia Gastoniotis reported that everyone is thankful the Greek Church has been safe especially considering the fire came
within 2 blocks of the Church. Members are trying to get back to
normal and it is hoped the winds will not shift toward the city again.
DOP Chapter #103 member Carol Stathopoulos reported that the fire
has headed uphill and is in national forest land where there are only a
few homes. The 3000+ firefighters plus several dozen aircraft have
been doing an outstanding job of keeping the fire from the homes.
The local and "invited" law enforcement have been very helpful in
directing the safe and efficient evacuation of residents from their homes. While approximately 100 homes were lost (there is no
official count as yet), there was no loss of life, and only a few were
injured, some brave firefighters. There is a lot to be thankful for.
