GEORGE TASSOS George Tassos was born November 30, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois. He was called to the Lord on November 11, 1998. He was the eldest of the 3 Tassos children, George, Steve and Toulla. In 1944, the family moved to Battle Creek Michigan. Upon graduation from High School George joined the Navy, serving during the Korean War. While in the Navy, he was stationed in San Diego, where he met his future wife, Georgia. He was honorably discharged in 1952. George and Georgia were married in San Diego on July 19, 1953. ![]() God blessed them with 3 children; daughter Kathy, son Chris, and then daughter Betty. Their children grew up and married. Kathy and Gordon’s children are Erin, Ryan and Lauren. Chris and Dana’s children are Matthew and Ben. Betty and Conrad’s children are Andrew and Rebecca. They had a beautiful child Robin who passed away several years ago. The pain of that loss stayed with George throughout the years. He loved his family. He was truly a great family man. George was initiated into the Ahepa in Battle Creek Michigan, on June 7, 1953, and in the Ahepa he found his second family. He was a charter member of Downy Chapter #430, where he served in all the offices including President, many times. He held many District Lodge offices, including that of District Governor. He went on to be elected Supreme Trustee, and in 1994 became Supreme Governor. George was successful in the restaurant business and in real estate. The trait that made him successful in each of his endeavors was his strong integrity. He was honest and straightforward. His word was his bond! George Tassos was a wonderful man - husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He loved his God, his Family, his Church, and his Ahepa Brothers. He loved life, including his golf – and he was a fine golfer, winning many championships. We will sorely miss George. There will be a void in the lives of all who knew him. May God give comfort to Georgia, their family, and all who loved him, until we all meet again. May his memory be eternal! 1999 District Convention Thursday, June 3 - Sunday June 7Radisson Wilshire Plaza Hotel Los Angeles, California.
