Dear Family & Friends,

In less than 6 months the 2002 Winter Olympic Games will commence in Salt Lake City, Utah. Greece takes great pride in being the founders of the Olympic games. The Greek flag is marched into the Olympic stadium first for the entire world to see, this is a tradition that comes with great honor. The Olympic Legacy evolved from the ideals of the ancient Greeks- ideals of physical, cultural, and artistic excellence. The Olympic games is the greatest expression of those values.

As the upcoming host of the 2004 Olympics, we must commit ourselves to making the 2004 Games in Athens, Greece one of the most remembered. One way to do this is to make sure that we as a people are well represented in the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah.

[Trio]

In 1994, Greece qualified its first ever Olympic Bobsleigh Team (international term for bobsled). We qualified our second bobsleigh team in 1998 and now have our sights on our third Olympic games. The Greek Bobsleigh Team wants to bring us all close to the pride and spirit of Olympic participation. The sport of bobsleigh is the only Olympic event that prominently displays a country’s flag and colors and is therefore an excellent opportunity for Greece to be recognized prior to our hosting the 2004 Olympic games in Athens.

In February of the year 2000, two athletes embarked on a journey that sparks Olympic spirit. Teammates John-Andrew Kambanis and John Livaditis are Greece’s hopes for an Olympic Bobsled Team.

John-Andrew Kambanis, the team’s pilot, has been with the Greek Bobsleigh Team since 1993. Having just missed an opportunity to compete with the team in the ’94 Winter Olympics, he spent the next four years eagerly pursuing another chance at fulfilling his Olympic dream. In 1998 John-Andrew helped the Greek Team accomplish their goal of competing in their second Olympic games in Nagano, Japan. As the 1998 Brakeman in both the two-man and four-man competition John-Andrew’s experience inspired him to take over the reins of the team and pursue a second Olympic appearance- this time as the teams Pilot.

John Livaditis, the team’s brakeman, joined the team in 1999. John-Andrew was in search of a teammate, who not only possessed the necessary athletic skill and determination to compete at the highest level, but also the Olympic Spirit necessary to inspire others. He found that in John. Together the team has competed in 4 Americas Cup races and 3 World Cup races ending this past season ranked 7th out of 18 nations in the Americas Cup circuit and 36th out of 47 nations in the World Cup circuit. Thrilled with our progress, we made a commitment to spend our summer training together and preparing for October -which begins our qualifying season for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.

Your donation is needed to help us compete successfully. Supporting our team is one way that we together can achieve our dream and in doing so, inspire others to do the same. The Olympic spirit is in each of us. Athletes and non-athletes alike exemplify Olympic spirit when they share in the dreams and inspiration of those who compete. The Greek Bobsled Team’s 1998 Olympic dream could not have been realized had it not been for all the donations from individuals like yourself who believed in our team.

This past March, we launched our website, www.olympicdream.net. The site is our creative way of “Sharing the dream” and was inspired by John-Andrew’s 1998 Olympic experience. Through the site, we are offering our fans and supporters an opportunity to send in an individual or family photo with a $20 donation. All the photos we receive will be sent to an artist who will combine all the photos to create an “Olympic Spirit Collage” that will be artistically displayed on our sled. This is our way of taking you with us to the Olympic games. Your picture will keep you right there with us when we compete. What an exciting way to share and inspire others through our Olympic dream - pictures of you, your children, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends of all ages.

Imagine a sled that’s covered with all who helped us achieve our goal- an artistic expression, displaying the shared effort of an Olympic dream come-true (see collage example below).

Currently, we are both training full time in preparation for our qualifying season beginning this October. Qualification standards are tougher than ever and so are the competitive costs. We are working overtime to raise the necessary funds now so that we can focus on the competition in November.

Please join our Olympic Spirit. Your generous contributions will make a tremendous difference in helping us prepare for the challenging season ahead. And remember, all donations are tax deductible. Thank you in advance. Please fill out the enclosed form and send it back to us as soon as possible.

Truly yours,
John-Andrew Kambanis
